Wonka’d by 2018…

2018? I guess I kinda feel THIS way: Completely Wonka’d!
I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera… Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera… Memo bis punitor delicatum!”
[slams the contract copy and the magnifying glass down, continues shouting]
“It’s all there, black and white, clear as crystal!…You lose! Good day, sir!”
I look back and see the only post I put here was back in FEBRUARY?!
On the other hand…I closed the year with almost 80,000 newly crafted words put down in Queen, Book Three of The Hunted Mage Trilogy.
But…combined with a horrific work schedule during what should have been a quiet end of the hotel season, I severely neglected my family to accomplish it.
The best writing year of my life is crammed into the worst work year I have ever had and I am left feeling flat and run down.
Why post it publicly? Because it is truth, and I don’t care to pull my punches.
Everything comes at a price. You pay it and sometimes you pay FOR it. This is one of those times.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) 23  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Yeah… I did that. And it sucked.
“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”

Yeah, Ray…it’s been THAT kind of year!

Meet a Local Author…

Saturday, March 3rd…3pm at White Birch Books in North Conway, NH…I will be sitting down to a Local Author’s signing of my first two books HUNTSMAN and DAGGER.

White Birch Books

Come by to say ‘Hey’ if you are in the area.

A further note of interest: work on Book Three has resumed with 7,500 new words in Jan / Feb. I have been shockingly negligent in actual word production of late, but my New Year’s Resolution was to pick up again and write habitually and THAT I have accomplished even if my Word Count Goal was not met.

First newspaper mention…

I am attending the Saima Park Tori again this year…I hope! (Thanks once again to my book distributors for shipping via the wrong service. I needed the extra anxiety of maybe NOT having books to sell at the event!)

My niece forwarded me the link to the Sentinel & Enterprise write-up. I don’t think I’ve been in a newspaper for my writing!

Saima Park Annual Tori is the place to be on Sunday for the Classic Car Cruise as well.

Come on by! I’m almost famous now. Once Steven Spielberg’s people call me back for the movie deal and James Earl Jones agrees to read the audio book version…

Unlearning Assumptions

My niece approached me via Facebook about participating in a new social justice endeavor she works with because A. I sporadically write stuff and B. one of the first themes was Justice and Hospitality.

At first I was reluctant, because…reasons…and then I remembered this story from the recent past.

It was fun to write, and the editors from Streetside were a pleasure to work with in revision mode.

So… Thanks, Kaija!

It was a nice reminder to myself that, despite frustrations, there are great personalities in this world from ALL walks of life.

In the bustle of work-a-day, sometimes you have to make the extra effort. It makes you weary. It is hard to do. They may not need that extra effort, but might simply appreciate that you gave it.

Sometimes, you just ‘have to draw the horse’ and hope…

Going to try selling some books…

There’s a Tori happening next week…a Finnish market.

As my books are set in Finland AD 1019, I have rented a table to try to sell some books next Sunday.

I had some good sales last time I went in 2014 and now there is Book the Second: DAGGER available so…with a super quiet weekend at the hotel, I, at my lovely Bride’s urging, will attend and put on my salesman’s hat.

We had a fun time at the last Tori and this one has 2 things that make it fun:

  1. It is coupled with an antique Car Show and
  2. It is being held at Saima Park which is where we held our wedding reception almost 26 years ago!

Anyone in the mid-Massachusetts area come on by to say hello! (If you do stop by, you will be subjected to my sales pitch…fair warning!)

Also, I am looking for other gatherings along these lines to sell & sign books and get sales moving. I don’t do enough of these events so if anyone hears of things through the winter in the Mass/New Hampshire area please let me know!

Update on Huntsman Promo and Dagger release…

Due to everyone’s support, Huntsman is #9 in the Kindle Historic Fantasy section under Top 100 Free e-books!

If you go a step more specific into Historic Fantasy/ Myths & Legends/Norse & Viking Huntsman is #6!

Many thanks to everyone who has shared my news to family & friends. Having their books seen by as many people as possible is crucial to self-published authors. That and getting James Earl Jones to call back about reading the Audio Book for me…he’s so darn busy!

HUNTSMAN is still available at no cost all day today. December 9th. All reviews of Huntsman are valued, btw. If you have downloaded and liked what you have read, please let me know what you think!

DAGGER has gone on-line early. Book 2 in The Hunted Mage Trilogy.

DAGGER for Paperback is available from Createspace which is a division of Amazon. If you’d like a Book instead of an e-book, THIS is the link you want!

DAGGER for Amazon Kindle is available here!

DAGGER for Other styles is being distributed to Apple and Kobo via Smashwords also. Those may take some time. I will send word when I know when.
